Where We’ve Been
I began “I Found the Colors, SPC” in January 2020. Then Covid arrived and impacted us all. For me, it meant pivoting to online teaching at The Evergreen State College, which presented a steep learning curve. Then, in the summer of 2020, I experienced my first bout with Covid. Only a few symptoms remained after four weeks, and I resumed a full life including teaching Zumba and launching “I Found the Colors, SPC.” Then, in March 2021, I experienced a severe Covid-related reaction that started with nine hours of paralysis and resulted in disabling CNS conditions that continue today. Yes, friends, Long Covid is real. But so is perseverance!

Where We’re Going
II am thrilled to announce that we now have a wonderful volunteer intern, Willow Berka, who is helping reawaken “I Found the Colors” just in time for the holidays! (Meet Willow in the “Community Blog.”)

  • We will post a new yarn collection plus a variety of new scarves including solids, ecoprints, and shibori.
  • Products will be deeply discounted.
  • A class in December will allow you to create special items for the season of sharing.
  • Gift certificates will be available for classes in January — such as “I’ve Got the Blues” (including dyeing with indigo) and a series of evening classes called “Colors of Heritage and Home” offered through Arbutus Folk School — and, in February, both a weekend class and a dye-party on Valentine’s Day called “Colors of Love.”

Creating Community

  • If you have created plant-related arts that you would like to sell through “I Found the Colors,” please let us know.
  • If you’re interested in purchasing a particular kind of plant-dyed item, let us know that, too; we welcome product requests.
  • We will stay in communication through blog posts, a newsletter, and responses to questions, ideas or requests.
  • Oh yes, if you’d like to join a monthly conversation about all-things related to naturally dyeing, subscribe to our Color Collective. We will meet informally online on the second Tuesday of the month, starting in December!
